Tasting - Purple Paws Zinfandel

Name: Purple Paws Zinfandel
Variety: 100% Zinfandel
Region: Lodi, California
Country: USA
Year: 2012
Price: $12.99

Winery Review: Purple Paws Zinfandel 2012 exhibits hints of cherry on the front of your palate and vanilla on the finish. It pairs well with good friends and barbecue. Timeless wines.

My Review: I did not enjoy this wine at all. I found it hard to drink and even from the smell, I did not want to taste it. It had kind of a strong cedar smell. The aftertaste was extremely bitter.

I tasted this wine with no food.

Tasting - Purple Paws Cabernet Sauvignon

Name: Purple Paws Cabernet Sauvignon Non Vintage
Variety: 100% Cabernet Sauvignon
Region: Lodi, California
Country: USA
Year: 2012
Price: $12.99

Winery Review: Our 2012 Lodi Cabernet has all the classic notes of a California Cabernet Sauvignon. Cloves, olives, and oak with a no nonsense, fruit forward finish remind you why this, the heaviest wine in the Purple Paws line, lends itself to pairings of robust steaks or lamb. Timeless wines.

My Review: This wine smelled really sweet. I smelled blackberries. Even though it smelled really sweet, tasting it was quite different. It tasted bitter and I did not like it.

I tasted this wine with no food.

Tasting - Rosemount Estate Chardonnay

Name: Rosemount Estate Diamond Label Chardonnay
Variety: 100% Chardonnay
Region: South Eastern
Country: Australia
Year: 2013
Price: $9.99

Winery Review: A bland but slightly organic nose. Buttery with a bit of musky oak. Mild and pretty smooth, fairly inline with its price-point. It didn't seem to fare well being kept overnight. Cellartracker. (2/16/15) -- 84

My Review: Pretty good. It smelled very fruity. I thought it was creamy tasting and had hints of oak. I would not mind drinking this wine with some food.

I tasted this with no food.

My Personal Experience with Wine

I have no experience with wine. I have probably only drank wine ten times in my entire life. The only times that I can remember drinking wine, it was because I was with my friends. My friends enjoy drinking wine all the time. It is their alcohol of choice. I do not like the taste of wine, but I am thinking that is because my friends drink "bad" quality wine. The only wine I have ever tasted has been mostly pink or white wine.

In my personal experience with wine, I have found that I do prefer lighter colored wines over red wine. As I stated earlier, the only times I normally drink wine, is in a social setting. I avoid drinking wine most of the time because I have had one very bad experience with wine. That bad experience was throwing up, but that might have been from other reasons besides the wine.

Since I only drink wine socially, I have no knowledge of wine and the different types of wine. I am hoping that by taking this class, wine will become more enjoyable to me. I would really like to learn about the different types of wine there are and I would also like to learn all about the different names and what the names mean. I also hope that I can educate some of my friends on wine too, so they can enjoy wine even more. I am excited to go downtown and taste better quality wine.
